Lake Ewart

Lake Ewart sits just outside Huntingdon, a proper stretch of water that's caught between being genuinely lovely and slightly underwhelming depending on what you're after. The lake itself is fairly sizeable - good for a walk round if you've got time to kill, though the surrounding landscape is very flat Cambridgeshire fens rather than dramatic scenery.

Walkers will find it decent enough. There's a circuit you can do, and on a clear day it's peaceful without feeling remote. Photography types often show up for water birds and reflections. Don't expect dramatic views or rare species - this is gentle East Anglian countryside, the kind that grows on you rather than stopping you in your tracks.

As a break from Crystal Lakes Leisure down the road, it works well if you need to stretch your legs without straying far. The lake is free to access and you can spend as little as thirty minutes pottering about or an hour if you fancy the full loop. Best visited on a day when the weather's actually decent - grey fens in drizzle lose their appeal fast.

Families with young children might find it a bit thin on entertainment beyond "look at the ducks", and there's not much in the way of facilities nearby. It's the kind of place you go because you're staying locally and fancy some fresh air, not because it's your reason for visiting Huntingdon.
