Lake District Wildlife Park

You'll find yourself among captive animals in a working wildlife park just outside Keswick - think big cats, primates, and reptiles in purpose-built enclosures rather than anything resembling natural habitat. It's the sort of place families with young children gravitate towards on rainy afternoons, and the staff clearly care about the animals, but don't expect anything revolutionary. The park operates as a traditional zoo-style attraction with the usual mix of education and entertainment, though the Cumbrian hillside setting does at least provide a decent backdrop.

For a proper Lake District holiday based at one of the nearby parks - Kestrel Lodge Campsite is closest at 2.4 miles, with Skiddaw View just a mile further - this works as a wet-weather backup rather than a destination in itself. You're genuinely better off hiking to Catbells or exploring Derwentwater if the weather permits.
