About Lake 43
The lake itself is straightforward: you get the water, some woodland fringing, and space to walk round it. It's the sort of place that appeals more to people who just want a proper pause than those chasing Instagram moments. Walkers do well here. Families with younger kids will get a good hour out of it, maybe less if the weather turns. Birdwatchers and fishing types rate it highly enough to make the journey from town.
There's no obvious visitor infrastructure that we can pin down - no café, no visitor centre, no admission charges that we know of. That means it's free, which is rather nice, and you turn up when suits you. Spring and early summer are cracking times before the summer crowds get mad everywhere.
If you're based at Hoburne Cotswold Holiday Park just down the road - under two miles away - this becomes an easy add-on to a Cotswolds break without any faffing about. Park Farm Campsite, five miles out, gives you something quieter as a base, and Lake 43 works as a morning outing before hitting Cirencester town centre itself. It won't take all day, but that's partly its charm.
