Laird's Loch

The water at Laird's Loch sits dark and still, ringed by trees that slope down to the shore. It's a proper wee loch - not massive, but big enough to feel like you've actually gone somewhere when you get there from Perth.

You can walk the perimeter, which takes the better part of an hour depending on your pace and how many times you stop to check the wildlife. Waterfowl are thick on the water, especially in autumn and winter. Bring binoculars if you're into birds. The path itself is manageable - muddy in places after rain, but nothing that demands hiking boots.

Historically, there's a Scottish laird connection (hence the name), though don't expect interpretive boards or a visitor centre. It's one of those places that rewards showing up quietly and paying attention.

Families with youngsters aged six or older will get something out of it - the walk's not punishing, and kids tend to like spotting ducks. Walkers using the area as a loop from nearby Beech Hedge holiday park will find it a solid half-day option. The loch sits far enough outside Perth to feel rural, but it's not remote enough to require serious kit.

Timing-wise, aim for morning light if you can manage it. The trees create shadow by afternoon. And honestly, it's the sort of place that's better on a quiet weekday than a bank holiday Sunday - you'll actually hear the water and the birds.
