The Ladan Gallery sits in Macclesfield, and it's the sort of place you stumble into on a wet afternoon when the Peak District trails have turned to mud. It's a contemporary art space - the kind of venue that takes itself seriously without being pretentious about it. What you'll find depends entirely on what's on rotation, but expect anything from sculpture and painting to installations that actually make you think rather than just nod politely.

This works best for people who actually like galleries. Not the "I'll come because we're nearby" crowd - real art types who'd spend two hours reading every wall text. Families might find it underwhelming unless their kids are genuinely interested; there's not much here to occupy a bored eight-year-old for long.

Macclesfield itself is worth a proper wander round - proper old mill town with actual character, not the sort of place that's been turned into a theme park version of itself. If you're staying at Sycamore Farm Caravan Site just outside town, you're well-placed for this. Pop into the gallery, grab a coffee somewhere local, then head back to the caravan before the light goes. It's a decent couple of hours, not a whole day thing, but that's rather the point.
