About Knott Hill
This isn't a destination that'll take your breath away in the way Helvellyn might, but that's exactly why it works so well. Families with school-age kids will get on with it fine. The terrain's manageable, mostly grassy slopes without the loose scree that catches people out elsewhere. You're looking at a proper walk rather than a gentle stroll though, so bring decent boots.
The fell itself has a bit of history too - you'll spot the old stone remains dotted about as you go up. Millom's just down the way if you fancy sorting yourself out with supplies before heading up. If you're staying at Harbour Lights Campsite, this is a natural half-day activity that justifies the trip to this corner of the coast. The late afternoon light does something special up there, so timing your ascent for late morning means you'll catch it properly. Free to visit, obviously. No facilities on the hill itself, so water and snacks are essential.
