Knockin Castle

You'll find Knockin Castle standing alone in the Powys countryside, roughly halfway between Shrewsbury and the Welsh border. It's not dramatic - more a series of earthworks and crumbling stone walls than a full fortress - but that's rather the point. This Norman motte-and-bailey sits on a raised mound with views across modest farmland, and the isolation gives it genuine atmosphere.
