Kippen Hill

The walk up Kippen Hill from Perth takes you through proper Perthshire countryside - nothing too demanding, which is precisely why it works so well. The summit sits at 381 metres, and on a clear day you'll see across the Tay Valley with reasonable views back towards the Ochil Hills. It's the kind of walk that takes most people an hour or so up, maybe forty minutes down if you're keen.

This isn't a dramatic peak. There's no scrambling, no exposure, just straightforward uphill trudge through fields and alongside woodland. Families with kids aged eight and up will manage it without complaint, though younger ones might find the return leg a bit dull. The real appeal is that it's close enough to Perth for a half-day outing without feeling rushed, and the views are decent enough to justify the effort.

Walkers after something more serious should probably head for the Ochils proper or further north. But if you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby - Broadslap Farm is only a couple of miles away - it's a sensible way to stretch your legs without travelling far. The hill's free to access and takes no special equipment. Go on a morning when Perth isn't too warm; afternoon crowds heading back downhill can turn the narrow sections a bit fiddly. Allow two hours return journey with breaks.
