Kinnesswood Play Park

A proper woodland walk with a playground tucked into it - that's Kinnesswood in a nutshell. Near Kinross, this nature reserve does exactly what it says on the tin: gives kids space to run about while adults get some actual peace among the trees.

The play park itself is fairly standard stuff - climbing frames, slides, the usual suspects - but what makes it worth the trip from Gallowhill Caravan & Camping Park (just down the road, about 4.5 miles) is the woodland setting. You're not plonking the children in some concrete park surrounded by houses. There's proper forest around you, which changes the whole feel of the place.

Families with younger children will get a solid hour or two out of it. The walks are gentle enough that you won't spend the afternoon dealing with complaints about tired legs. If you're after a proper ramble with older kids, you can push further into the reserve and leave the playground behind entirely.

Go early on weekends if you can - it fills up quickly during school holidays. The paths can get muddy, so wellington boots aren't optional here, particularly after rain.

It's the sort of stop that works brilliantly as a half-day activity from a caravan base in the area. You're not going to spend a whole week coming back, but as a break in the holiday when everyone needs to burn off energy, it does the job properly.
