King George's Playing Fields

It's the sort of place where dog walkers outnumber birdwatchers, which is fine - the fields serve a real local purpose rather than performing as a tourist attraction.

What you get is straightforward: wide meadows good for running about on, tree-lined paths that feel greener than you'd expect this close to town, and enough open sightlines to spot wildlife without needing binoculars. In spring the place comes alive with breeding birds; autumn brings migrant species worth jotting down. The fields flood a bit in winter, which is either a bonus if you like muddy rambling or a reason to time your visit for drier months.
