Kine Croft Park

The Thames Path runs right past Kine Croft Park, and that's honestly the best way to experience it - as part of a longer riverside walk rather than a destination in itself. This small nature reserve sits just outside Wallingford and offers a quiet spot to watch for kingfishers and occasional herons along the water's edge. The reserve is genuinely modest in scale, so don't expect hours of exploration. Most visitors spend thirty minutes to an hour here before pushing on along the towpath.

It's the sort of place that works well for families who aren't after anything too demanding - kids can burn a bit of energy, and there's a decent chance of spotting wildlife if you're patient. Birdwatchers will find it worthwhile, particularly in spring and autumn when migrating species pass through. The real appeal, though, is that it forms part of a larger riverside circuit. Bridge Villa Camping and Caravan Park sits less than half a mile away, making it a natural stop if you're based there for a few nights.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so come prepared. The ground can get boggy depending on rainfall, so proper footwear matters. Free access as far as I can tell, which is fine - you're paying for the walk itself rather than facilities. Worth combining with time exploring Wallingford's medieval town centre and the riverside paths that crisscross this stretch of the Thames. On its own, it's a pleasant twenty-minute detour. As part of a proper day's walking, it slots in perfectly.
