The church sits quietly on the edge of Markethill, a solid stone structure that's been holding the line since medieval times. Kilmore Parish Church is one of those places that rewards stopping rather than rushing past - the kind of spot where you can actually hear yourself think.

What draws most visitors is the genuine age of the place. The current building dates to the 17th century, though there's been a church on this site since well before that. The interior is properly austere in the way old Church of Ireland buildings tend to be - whitewashed walls, simple furnishings, and that particular smell of old stone and polish that transports you straight back. The churchyard itself is worth a wander if you've got twenty minutes spare. Old gravestones lean at various angles, and you get a real sense of the local history just from reading the names and dates.

It's the sort of place that history buffs will find genuinely interesting, though families with restless kids might find fifteen minutes is their limit. Walkers doing circuits around Markethill could easily tack it on to a longer outing. The setting is peaceful without being dramatic - good for quiet reflection rather than Instagram moments.

If you're camping at Tepee Valley just down the road, this makes a proper rainy-day diversion or an early-morning constitutional. No admission charge as far as I can tell, and you can usually get in during daylight hours. Allow half an hour maximum unless you're into gravestone genealogy.
