Kilmagad Woods

The woodland path at Kilmagad near Kinross is a straightforward walk through mature trees, decent enough if you're already in the area but nothing that'll have you planning a trip around it. The woods themselves are pleasant enough - mixed deciduous, some conifers, proper quiet when you're in there - and they make for a solid leg-stretcher between other attractions in Perthshire.

Walkers will find it functional rather than spectacular. The paths are manageable and it's the kind of place you'd do in 45 minutes to an hour without rushing. Families with young kids might find it a bit dull unless they're keen on spotting birds or just running around trees, which, fair play, they'll do enthusiastically. The real appeal is the accessibility - it's close to Kinross, which means it works well as a break during a longer drive through Tayside.

Timing-wise, spring and autumn are nicest for woodland walking, when the ground isn't waterlogged and the light's better. Winter can get boggy.

If you're staying at Gallowhill Caravan & Camping Park just a few miles away, Kilmagad is a convenient nearby option on a rest day, but don't plan your entire Perthshire itinerary around it. It's the sort of place that slots into a day rather than anchoring one. There are more dramatic walks and heritage sites across the region if you want something with more meat on the bones.
