Libraries don't often make it onto holiday itineraries, but Ketton's is genuinely worth a quick stop if you're based near Stamford. It's a proper community space - the sort of place that tells you something real about how people actually live in a market town rather than just visiting the tourist bits.

What you'll find is a working library with decent local history resources, which matters if you're interested in the industrial heritage of the area. Ketton's stone quarries shaped the region, and the library holds material you won't find elsewhere. The building itself is functional rather than fancy - no grand Victorian architecture here - but that's part of its charm. Staff are genuinely helpful if you ask about local bits and pieces.

It's ideal for a rainy afternoon or if someone in your group needs to charge a phone and use WiFi. You won't spend hours here unless you're seriously into local history, but thirty minutes browsing is perfectly pleasant. Families with kids will find the children's section adequate though not extraordinary.

Free admission, naturally. Opening hours do vary seasonally so check ahead before making the trip. Stamford itself is only a few miles away and offers far more in terms of attractions - the Georgian architecture and the Stamford Meadows Glamping site makes this a solid base. If you're staying at Rockingham Forest Park or New Lodge Farm, Ketton's convenient enough for a pit stop rather than a destination in itself.
