Kempsey Common

A flat stretch of common land just outside Worcester where the River Severn meanders through meadows and woodland. Kempsey Common is proper walking territory - nothing dramatic, but genuinely pleasant if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks and fancy a couple of hours on foot without much climbing involved.

The reserve itself is unremarkable in the way that English commons often are: open grassland dotted with trees, the river visible from certain points, birdlife if you're patient enough to spot it. You're looking at easy riverside walks rather than dramatic scenery. It's the sort of place where you'll see dog walkers and locals out for a leg-stretch rather than crowds of tourists. The ground can be boggy after rain, so decent boots are a solid idea.

Historically it's been common land for centuries, which means it's held a fairly hands-off status - no grand structures or visitor facilities to speak of. This makes it either lovely or a bit dull depending on what you're after. Families with young children might manage an hour or so before they get restless. Keen walkers will appreciate it as a gentle warm-up or cool-down between bigger Worcestershire walks. If you're staying at Seaborne Leisure or Ketch Caravan Park, it's practically on your doorstep and worth a morning amble.

Access appears free, though I'd check locally before heading out. Go early if you want any sense of solitude.
