Kelsey Head

The clifftop walk to Kelsey Head hits differently on a clear day. You're perched on the north Cornwall coast near Holywell, staring out at a proper dramatic stretch of Atlantic coastline - the kind of view that makes you understand why people move to Cornwall and never leave.

It's not a complicated outing. The headland itself is the draw: rugged cliffs, golden gorse in season, and if you time it right, the light does something special in the late afternoon. There's a small car park nearby and the walk onto the head takes maybe twenty minutes from the road. Bring proper shoes - the path gets muddy and the cliff edge demands respect, especially when the wind picks up.

This works brilliantly as a morning stop if you're basing yourself at one of the nearby holiday parks. Anchor Barrow Campsite is barely five miles away, and Perran View another mile further on. You could easily combine Kelsey Head with Holywell Beach - which sits right below and is proper lovely for a swim or a paddle if the weather's on your side.

Walkers will get the most from this. Kids might find twenty minutes of clifftop enough before they're ready for the beach or somewhere with more action. It's free, takes an hour or so including the walk, and genuinely worth the detour if you're exploring this stretch of coast. Go in autumn when the summer crowds have cleared and you've got the cliffs almost to yourself.
