Cubert Commons

Just inland from Newquay, Cubert Commons is proper wild - all windswept grassland and gorse scrub that feels miles from the seaside bustle. It's the sort of place you can actually breathe without hearing someone's ice cream van or party playlist.

This is a working commonland, which means it's open moorland rather than a manicured nature reserve. You'll find sandy paths cutting through heathland, pockets of scrub woodland, and on a clear day, views that stretch toward the coast. The commons support breeding adders and sand lizards, plus various birds of prey - all worth keeping an eye out for if you're into that sort of thing. It's genuinely boggy in places, so proper footwear matters.

Walkers get the most from it. This isn't a destination in itself - more a proper stretch of your legs between the nearby holiday parks and a Newquay day out. Allow an hour or so depending on which paths you fancy. It's free, obviously, being common land.

If you're staying at Trevornick or Parkdean's Holywell Bay park just down the road, you can slip over for a walk without much fuss. It breaks up a park holiday nicely - something real and unpolished compared to the manicured bits. Families with older kids who don't mind getting muddy will appreciate it. Younger ones might find it a bit flat and featureless after twenty minutes.
