Rising 380 metres above the East Neuk countryside, this modest hill offers proper views across the Forth estuary without the crowds you'd find on bigger peaks. The walk up from Leven takes about an hour through farmland and rough grassland, following well-worn tracks that can get muddy after rain.

From the summit cairn, you'll see clear across to Edinburgh on good days, with the Bass Rock and Berwick Law standing out against the horizon. It's not dramatic - more of a gentle dome than a proper mountain - but the 360-degree panorama takes in everything from the Pentland Hills to the Lomond Hills.

Families with older kids will manage the ascent fine, though toddlers might struggle with the final steep section. Walkers looking for something more challenging than a coastal stroll but less demanding than a proper hill day will find it just right. The path can be vague in places, so decent navigation skills help.

Being free and always accessible, it's a good option for stretching legs during a holiday at one of the nearby parks like St Monans or Elie. Allow two to three hours for the round trip, and pick a clear day - the views are the whole point. Pack layers; it's always windier on top than you expect.
