Kellands Park

The walk through Kellands Park is one of those quietly satisfying stretches that doesn't announce itself loudly but rewards those who bother to venture there. It's a proper nature reserve tucked into the Aberdeenshire landscape near Inverurie, where you can expect woodland paths, open grassland, and the sort of peaceful surroundings that make you remember why you came to Scotland in the first place.

The reserve itself isn't massive - you're looking at a couple of hours maximum if you're a leisurely walker, less if you've got kids who tire easily. Birdwatchers will find it worthwhile, especially during migration seasons. The grassland sections offer decent views across the surrounding countryside, and the mix of habitat types means there's usually something to spot, whether that's rabbits in the rough grass or various woodland birds filtering through the trees.

It works well as part of a wider Aberdeenshire exploration. If you're staying at Hillhead Caravan Park just down the road, Kellands makes for an easy morning or afternoon outing without needing to pack the car and drive somewhere else entirely. There's a relaxed feel to it - no queues, no entrance fees to fret about, just space and fresh air.

Realistic assessment though: this isn't a major draw in itself. It's the sort of place you visit because you're in the area anyway, not because you've made a special trip. But that's rather the point. Sometimes the best walks are the ones nobody's heard of.
