The smell hits you first - that particular blend of diesel, old rubber and metal polish that only a transport museum can deliver. Keighley Bus Museum is exactly what it says on the tin: row after row of vintage buses, some dating back decades, parked up in a former bus depot right in the heart of Keighley town centre. You'll spend a good couple of hours wandering through the collection if you're genuinely interested in the vehicles themselves, though an hour is realistic if you're just tagging it on to something else.

It's a proper enthusiast's place. The buses themselves tell stories - you've got classic single-deckers, the sort that trundled around Yorkshire villages in the 1950s, alongside double-deckers from the 1960s and 70s that look impossibly narrow compared to modern traffic. Many are still operational, which means you might catch one being driven out during demonstrations, and that's when the place comes alive. Walk through the interiors, see the original adverts still clinging to the walls, try sitting in the driver's seat.

Families with kids under ten might find it a bit specialist - unless your child is genuinely obsessed with buses, thirty minutes will probably do them. Older kids and actual transport enthusiasts will dig it properly. It's free or very cheap admission (worth checking ahead), and works brilliantly as a half-day break from hiking in the Bronte Country Park area, which is barely two miles away. Keighley itself is less than a mile off, so it's convenient rather than a destination in itself, but that's the point - it fits neatly into a broader Yorkshire trip.
