Jubilee Rock

Twenty-six steps carved into the limestone face lead you up to this Victorian monument perched on a rocky outcrop above Bakewell. The views across the Wye Valley are proper lovely, though the climb might leave you slightly puffed - it's steeper than it looks from below.

Jubilee Rock commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897, and someone clearly thought this spot deserved marking. They weren't wrong. From the top, you can see right across to Haddon Hall and the rolling Derbyshire countryside beyond.

Walkers will appreciate this as a decent waypoint rather than a destination in itself. It's free to visit and takes about fifteen minutes to climb up, have a look around, and get back down. Kids might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're keen on scrambling up rock faces.

The monument sits between Bakewell and the Chatsworth estate, making it an easy detour if you're staying at any of the nearby sites like Darwin Forest or Chatsworth Park Campsite. Worth combining with a walk along the Monsal Trail or a visit to Bakewell itself for the full Derbyshire experience. Just don't expect to spend more than half an hour here.
