Jubilee Cairn

A modest stone cairn sits on high ground near Auchterarder, built to mark Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897. It's the kind of thing you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it, which is rather the point - no crowds, no visitor centre, just a Victorian monument and whatever views the Perthshire weather allows on the day you visit.

The cairn itself won't take long. Ten minutes to walk round it, read the inscription if you can make it out, take a photo. But the real draw is the walk to reach it and the sense of doing something proper rather than shuffling round a managed attraction. History buffs will appreciate the marker of Empire-era commemoration, though it's hardly a dramatic structure. Walkers get more value - it works as a waypoint on a longer route through the Perthshire landscape, and the surrounding countryside is genuinely worth exploring.

It's free and accessible year-round, though winter can make the approach muddy and cheerless. Spring and early autumn are better bets. Allow an hour if you're making a proper outing of it rather than a quick stop.

For a park-based holiday, it pairs well with Greenhill Farm Glamping just five miles away - close enough for a half-day excursion without feeling forced. Alexander House is even nearer at two miles, making it a straightforward walk if you're staying there and want to stretch your legs beyond the park itself. The cairn works best as part of a wider Perthshire exploration rather than a destination in isolation.
