IOTW "Pipes and Drams" mural

You'll find this one on a wall in Invergordon, and it's proper eye-catching. The 'Pipes and Drams' mural is a celebration of two things Scotland does brilliantly - bagpipes and whisky - rendered in bold, colourful street art that stops you in your tracks. It's the sort of thing that makes you pull out your phone, not because it's trying too hard, but because it's genuinely well-executed and captures something real about Highland culture.

The mural itself is free to view and takes about five minutes to photograph properly. You're not going to need half a day here, but if you're passing through Invergordon anyway - perhaps visiting nearby Newmore Highland Pods - it's absolutely worth the quick detour. The artist has managed to make whisky bottles and pipe players look dynamic rather than twee, which is harder than it sounds.

It works best as part of a wider Highland wandering rather than a destination in itself. Invergordon sits right on the Cromarty Firth, so the light's usually decent for photography in the early morning or late afternoon. Don't go expecting a massive experience - this is a single mural on a building wall. But it's a proper good one, and it tells you something about what matters to the people who live here. Well worth photographing if you're in the area staying at the pods.
