Inverurie Bowling Club

The bowling green in Inverurie is one of those quietly proper local institutions that makes a market town actually function. It's a no-nonsense patch of manicured grass where the serious players come, mostly on summer evenings when the light hangs about until nearly nine. You'll see folk in white shoes and measured polos, concentrating hard, barely a word spoken except for the occasional groan when a wood goes rogue.

This is genuinely where you come if you want to play bowls properly - flatbowl, outdoor, the works. It's not a tourist attraction in the slightest. The club runs regular competitions and a proper fixture list, and they're usually welcoming to visitors who know what they're doing. If you've never bowled before, call ahead to check if they run beginner sessions; some clubs do, some don't.

The town itself is worth a proper wander. Inverurie sits where two rivers meet, with a decent high street and some decent pubs for afterwards. If you're staying at Hillhead Caravan Park just down the road, it's an easy pop into town after you've sorted your pitch.

Really only worth your time if you're genuinely keen on bowls. Otherwise the green is just... a green. But if you're the sort who loves the rhythm of the game, the etiquette, the concentration - then you've found your people.
