Invermoriston Pier (Ruined)

The remains of Invermoriston Pier are scattered along the lochside, crumbling into Loch Ness like a story half-told. What's left are stone foundations and weathered pillars - enough to make out what it once was, not enough to use it. Built in the 19th century to service steamships, it's now purely atmospheric; the boats stopped coming decades ago.

This is less a destination and more a reason to walk. The pier itself takes ten minutes to explore properly, so you'll want to combine it with the village paths around Invermoriston itself or tackle the nearby woodland trails. Families with young children might find it underwhelming on its own, but older kids interested in industrial heritage or Loch Ness history will get something from it. Photographers are drawn to it - the weathered stone against water light does read well.

It's free and always accessible, though there's no visitor infrastructure whatsoever. Come in afternoon light if you can; mornings can be grey and flat around the loch. Allow 20 minutes if you're just here, longer if you're exploring the village.

From Inver Coille Camping & Glamping or Loch Ness Shores just down the road, it's an easy detour on a rest day - close enough not to warrant a special trip, valuable enough if you're already in the area. Inverness is under an hour's drive, so it fits comfortably into a wider Highland itinerary.
