There's a stretch of coastline near Bridlington where the cliffs drop away and the chalk faces catch the light something fierce. Ingleburn Nature Reserve sits along this bit of Yorkshire coast, and it's the sort of place that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick tick-off.

What you're looking at is managed grassland and scrubland running down toward the shore - nothing dramatic, but genuinely interesting if you're into plants and birds. The reserve protects habitat for ground-nesting species, so spring and early summer are when things get lively. You'll spot skylarks doing their thing overhead, and if you're lucky, the occasional adder or slow worm in the longer grass. It's not a destination that'll blow your mind in an afternoon, but it's exactly the sort of place to spend an hour or two on foot, binoculars optional.

This is squarely for naturalists and walkers rather than families wanting a beach day - the paths are decent enough but there's not much to keep younger kids entertained beyond "look at the birds". Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it seriously, and go early morning or dusk when wildlife activity peaks.

The reserve slots nicely into a coastal holiday based at Parkdean Resorts Barmston Beach or Seaside Caravan Park, both within five or six miles. You can combine it with beach time at Bridlington proper, though the reserve itself is about the wildlife and the open views rather than seaside charm. Worth the detour if you're already in the area, but not worth planning a trip around.
