Inch Parish Church

The stone walls of Inch Parish Church have been standing since medieval times, though what you see today is largely Victorian restoration work. It's a modest country church in the Newry, Mourne and Down area, just outside Downpatrick, and it matters more for what it represents than for architectural pyrotechnics. The churchyard itself is genuinely pleasant - proper quiet, with old graves dating back centuries and trees offering decent shelter.

This isn't a showstopper attraction. You'll spend twenty minutes inside, tops, unless you're genuinely into ecclesiastical history or rubbing brass plaques. What it does offer is atmosphere and a genuine sense of place - the kind of thing that appeals to walkers doing the Downpatrick circuit or people interested in how rural communities sustained themselves over generations. Families with young kids might find it a bit underwhelming on its own.

It's free to visit, naturally, and there's no faffing about with opening hours - just turn up. The location works well if you're basing yourself at Delamont Country Park (2.4 miles away), which has proper facilities and a cracking 5-star rating. Buckshill Caravan Site is marginally closer at 2.7 miles, or if you're staying at Castle Ward (6.2 miles), you could combine it with visits to the house and estate there.

Best visited on a dry day when the churchyard is walkable. Pair it with a wider exploration of Downpatrick's other historical sites rather than treating it as a standalone outing.
