Iceni Horse

The Iceni Horse sits on the outskirts of Great Yarmouth as a striking modern sculpture celebrating one of Norfolk's most significant ancient tribes. It's a sizeable bronze figure - you can't miss it - and it marks the territory of the Iceni people who once dominated this corner of East Anglia before the Roman invasion. The sculpture itself is contemporary art rather than archaeological recreation, but it works as a proper focal point for understanding the region's Iron Age heritage.

What makes it worthwhile is less the sculpture alone and more what it represents in the landscape. Standing here, you get a real sense of the Iceni's power and presence. It's the sort of thing that works best if you're already interested in British tribal history rather than a standalone attraction that'll occupy your afternoon. Twenty minutes is realistic, unless you're the type to sit and contemplate for longer.

If you're camped at one of the nearby parks - Norfolk Broads Caravan and Motorhome Club or Clippesby Hall are closest at around four miles - it's a decent detour on your way to or from Great Yarmouth. The drive's minimal. History enthusiasts will appreciate it more than families with young kids, who might find it underwhelming after the initial novelty wears off. The location itself is fairly industrial, so don't expect countryside rambling to accompany the visit. Worth the short trip if you're exploring Norfolk's heritage, but not worth planning a holiday around.
