An 18-hole course on the outskirts of Leicester that takes itself seriously without being snobby about it. Humberstone Heights is the kind of place where you'll see proper golfers working on their swing alongside weekend hacks just after a decent score. The layout rolls across decent acreage with enough variation to keep you thinking, though it's not a championship track trying to break your handicap in half.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Village Farm Getaway, Fox's Furrow, or Reas Glamping Retreat at Zillahs Spinney are all within striking distance - it's a solid option for a morning round before you head off elsewhere in Leicestershire. Plan on four hours minimum, probably four and a half if you're taking your time. Families with junior golfers will find it accessible without being patronising about it.

The course itself is straightforward enough that you won't spend all day hunting for balls in rough you can't see, but there's enough dog-leg routing to make you commit to shots rather than just wallop and hope. Greens are reasonably maintained, and the pace of play moves at a clip you won't find tedious.

You'll need to check their current green fees and membership options directly - Leicester's close enough that it's worth phoning ahead rather than turning up expecting walk-on play. It's a decent half-day activity that doesn't overshadow a broader park holiday, which is exactly what you want when you've only got a week in the Midlands.
