Hugo's Fun Dog Field

Your dog will absolutely lose it the moment you arrive at Hugo's Fun Dog Field near Canterbury. It's exactly what it sounds like - a sprawling off-lead space where dogs can sprint, dig, splash in water features and just be properly daft without you worrying about traffic or other people's gardens.

The field itself is genuinely spacious. There's enough room that even on busier days your spaniel or terrier won't constantly collide with other dogs, and the layout means you can wander to quieter corners if your pet's the anxious type. What makes it worth the drive from central Canterbury is the variety - you get open grassland, some wooded bits for shade, and water access that my labrador found irresistible even in winter.

Timing matters. Early mornings are your best bet if you've got a nervous dog or want the place more or less to yourself. Mid-afternoon weekends can get hectic with the devoted dog crowd, which is fine if your pooch is sociable, less fine if they're not.

Staying at either Hawthorne Trench Campsite or Black Horse Farm nearby gives you convenient base camp for exploring the area without dog-related guilt. Both are close enough that you could easily pop back mid-morning if your dog needs a rest before tackling bigger countryside walks around Canterbury itself.

Admission details aren't widely advertised online, so ring ahead before you go. Worth doing if you're camping locally.
