Household Coppice

The woodland around Household Coppice near Corby is proper forest walking territory - tall trees, decent paths, and the kind of quiet you don't often find in the Midlands. It's genuinely atmospheric in there, especially on an overcast day when the light filters through the canopy in that particular way that makes you forget you're within reach of a town.

Walkers will get the most from this. There's no admission charge or café, just access to the woodland itself - bring a decent map or use the locals' routes. Allow a couple of hours if you're being thorough; it's not enormous, but it rewards a proper explore rather than a quick circuit. The forest is mixed deciduous and older coppice woodland, so there's actual structure to it instead of the monoculture you get elsewhere.

Timing-wise, spring and autumn are when it's worth the trip - the canopy's less oppressive in spring, and autumn colour is proper worth seeing. Summer can feel a bit heavy with all that leaf cover. Winter's fine if you don't mind mud.

If you're based at New Lodge Farm Bulwick just down the road, this works as a morning's walking before heading somewhere else. Brightside Caravan Park is equally close. Neither park location is exciting in isolation, but Household Coppice adds something genuine to a wider Northamptonshire ramble. Worth the detour if you're in the area, though not worth driving an hour specifically for it.
