Horseshoe

Three Victorian artist studios converted into a working gallery space make up this compact venue just outside Totland Bay. The Horseshoe gets its name from the curved arrangement of the original buildings, which now house rotating exhibitions of contemporary art alongside permanent displays of local Isle of Wight artists. You'll find everything from seascapes and landscape oils to modern sculpture and ceramics.

Art enthusiasts will appreciate the quality of work on show, though the space itself is fairly small - you can see everything in about 45 minutes. The gallery focuses heavily on Island-based artists, so expect plenty of coastal scenes and rural subjects that reflect the local landscape. Some pieces are for sale, with prices ranging from affordable prints to serious investment pieces.

Families might find it a bit limited unless the kids are genuinely into art - there's not much here to hold younger attention spans. The gallery works best as part of a broader day out in the Totland area, perhaps combined with a walk along the nearby coastline. Given its proximity to several holiday parks including The Bay Colwell and Heathfield Farm Camping Park, it makes for a decent rainy-day option when beach plans fall through. Check before travelling though, as opening times can be irregular outside peak season.
