Horringer Church, St Leonard's

St Leonard's sits in the village of Horringer, just a short drive east of Bury Saint Edmunds, and it's one of those churches that rewards the detour if you're into medieval architecture. The building itself is a solid piece of 14th-century work, with a decent tower and the kind of interior you find across Suffolk - whitewashed walls, decent woodwork, and that particular smell of old stone and polish that never quite leaves your clothes.

It's the sort of place that appeals to architecture types and anyone doing a church crawl through East Anglia, less so for kids unless they're genuinely interested. Allow twenty minutes to half an hour, longer if you're taking photos. Check locally about access times before you head out, as opening hours aren't always posted online.
