Horns of Alligin pinnacle 2

The twin peaks of Alligin rear up from the moorland like broken teeth, and climbing them is genuinely thrilling. These aren't gentle Highlands slopes - they're proper scrambles with exposure that'll sharpen your focus fast. The second horn (Sgurr Mhór) offers the more dramatic line, with steep rock sections and a knife-edge ridge that feels bigger than it actually is.

You're looking at a good four to five hours round trip from the car park, covering rough terrain that demands proper boots and a head for heights. The views across to Torridon and down towards Strathcarron are the sort that remind you why people come to the Highlands at all. On a clear day the light catches the Minch properly - spectacular. Summer's your best bet, though even then the weather can turn in minutes.

Families with older kids (teenagers) can manage it if they're used to outdoor stuff, but younger children will struggle with the scrambling and exposure. Solo walkers and experienced hillwalkers are the right audience here. It's not a casual stroll.

The scramble itself is free, naturally - no gates or fees. From Strathcarron it's a reasonable drive, and if you're based at Shieldaig Camping & Cabins nearby, you're well positioned for tackling this. Pair it with other Torridon peaks for a proper Highland walking trip. Worth the effort, but don't underestimate what you're signing up for.
