The layout plays across undulating parkland with mature trees framing most holes, which means wayward shots punish you fairly quickly. It's not championship-length drama, but it's honest golf that demands decent course management.

This is squarely for golfers, obviously. If you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Horam Manor Country Park is barely half a mile away, or Dernwood Farm Glamping is even closer - and you fancy a round during your Sussex break, it's convenient. Walking distance from some of those sites, really. Non-golfers, though, will find precisely nothing to do here except watch and wait, so it's not a family attraction in any broader sense.

You'll need to check their website for membership details and green fees - they operate as a private club with visiting arrangements, so ringing ahead is essential. Allow a solid three and a half to four hours for eighteen holes. The course works best on quieter weekday mornings when you're not queuing behind four-balls. Spring and autumn are lovely; winter gets waterlogged in patches.

Worth adding to your itinerary if you're a golfer with a week's holiday nearby. If you're not swinging a club, head into Heathfield itself or venture towards the High Weald instead.
