Hope Mountain

The climb up Hope Mountain from Chester doesn't take long, which is both blessing and curse. You're looking at a modest peak in Flintshire, the sort of walk that doesn't demand hiking boots or a packed lunch, but rewards you with decent views across North Wales once you've reached the top. The ascent is straightforward enough - nothing technical, just solid legwork uphill.

It's the kind of place walkers on a tight schedule actually finish, rather than abandon halfway through. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it without drama. The views aren't going to knock you sideways - you won't suddenly understand why you spent three hours driving - but they're pleasant enough if the weather cooperates. On a grey day, which is more often than not, it's rather ordinary. Worth doing if you're based nearby, less so if it's your main reason for a North Wales trip.

Chester sits just a few miles south, so you could easily combine this with a proper ramble or use it as a warm-up walk before heading deeper into Snowdonia.
