About Honeybag Tor
What you get is a granite tor - essentially a rocky knoll poking out of the moorland - with a relatively straightforward ascent that takes a good couple of hours at an easy pace including the climb itself. The summit's nothing fancy, just rocks and views, but that's rather the point. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find the boulder-hopping a touch tedious. History buffs won't find much here - it's purely a walk for the landscape.
There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of. You'll need to park sensibly nearby and bring water. The walk works best from spring through early autumn when the weather's more cooperative and the moorland isn't waterlogged. Winter can be wet and boggy underfoot. Free to visit, naturally - it's open moorland. Worth the detour if you're based in the area and want a relatively quick hit of Dartmoor's character without committing to a full day's hiking. Pair it with a stroll around Dartmoor National Park's other attractions if you're making an afternoon of it.
