The fields around Home Farm, just outside Stafford, are the kind of place you stumble across rather than plan a trip around. What you're looking at is proper Staffordshire countryside - rolling farmland that hasn't been swallowed up by the town's sprawl, and it's genuinely worth a wander if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Canalside Camping or Silver Trees Holiday Park.

It's not a formal attraction with gates and admission fees. Instead, it's an open stretch of agricultural land where you can walk the perimeter or cut across if you've got permission from the farmer. The views aren't dramatic - this is gently undulating terrain, hedgerows, the occasional copse of trees. But that's exactly what makes it restful. On a clear day you can see for miles across the Staffordshire plain, and the light changes throughout the day in ways that photographs never quite capture.

Walkers will find it peaceful, especially early morning or late afternoon when the light's best and you'll have the place largely to yourself. Families with small children might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're keen on spotting wildlife or learning to identify crop types. History enthusiasts won't find much here - it's working land, not heritage.

Allow an hour for a proper circuit walk. It's free, obviously. The real value is as a break from Stafford town centre when you're based at one of the surrounding holiday parks. Pair it with a walk along the nearby canal for a proper half-day out.
