Holy Trinity Parish Church

The church sits on Kettering's high street, all sandstone and history, looking rather more impressive than you'd expect for a market town. Inside, the light pours through Victorian stained glass and catches the medieval stonework - there's a real sense of centuries stacked on top of each other. The chancel's worth a proper look if you're into that sort of thing, and the memorials tell you plenty about who mattered in Northamptonshire once upon a time.

It's free to wander in, and you'll want maybe twenty minutes to have a decent look around, longer if you're the type who reads every inscription. Church enthusiasts and anyone interested in local history will get something from it. Families with young kids might struggle to hold their attention for long - it's not interactive, just solid, old-fashioned church-going atmosphere.

The location works well if you're based at one of the nearby parks. Lakeview Caravan Park is barely a mile and a half away, and Northfield Farm - which has top ratings - is just two and a half miles down the road. Get Lost In Nature sits a bit further out if you want more space. You could combine a visit here with a mooch around Kettering's town centre shops and cafés, but be honest with yourself: you're coming for the church because you're interested in medieval Midlands architecture, not because it's a major draw on its own.
