Holy Trinity Church

The church itself is unremarkable from the outside - grey stone, standard Victorian restoration, the kind of building you'd walk past without a second glance on the Launceston high street. But step inside and there's genuine medieval work here, tucked away in the fabric of something much older. The main draw is the carved stonework and the sense that this place has been doing its job for centuries without fussing about it.

This isn't a destination in itself, to be frank. You won't spend more than thirty minutes here, probably less if you're not particularly into church architecture. But if you're the sort who enjoys poking around old buildings - and there's no shame in that - it's worth a detour while you're in Launceston proper. The locals know it's there. Tourists rarely do.

It works well as a break during a park holiday in the area. Ekopod Glamping and Trewithen Farm are both nearby, and if you're based at either, you can easily combine a morning wandering Launceston's market and castle ruins with a quick look inside Holy Trinity. Admission details aren't widely publicized, so turn up during daylight hours and hope the door's open - it usually is during the day.

Families with young children will get bored quickly. Serious walkers or architecture enthusiasts will find it a solid addition to a larger Launceston itinerary. Go if you're in the area and have time. Don't plan a trip around it.
