Holy Trinity Church, Chesterfield

That wonky medieval tower, leaning slightly and topped with a spiralling lead roof, has been the town's most recognisable landmark for nearly 700 years. You can wander inside to see the vast perpendicular Gothic interior - soaring columns, stained glass, and proper medieval stonework that reminds you how seriously people took their churches back then.

It's free to get in, though opening hours vary depending on services and volunteers. Most of the appeal is straightforward: you're looking at genuine medieval craftsmanship and the architectural oddity that made Chesterfield famous. The spire itself is technically warped because the lead covering shifted in the sun centuries ago, and no one's ever bothered to "fix" it. That's the charm, really.

Families with older kids will get something from it; younger ones might find it dull after fifteen minutes. History enthusiasts and architecture spotters should absolutely make time. It works well as a morning stop if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Poolsbrook Country Park is only 3.4 miles away, making it an easy half-hour jaunt from your caravan or motorhome. If you're staying at Spire View Yurts or Slate House Farm's glamping pods, even closer. Dronfield sits just south if you need tea and provisions.
