Holy Trinity Church

Much Wenlock's Holy Trinity Church sits at the heart of this proper little market town, a medieval structure that's been quietly doing its job for centuries. The church itself is solid stone work - the kind of building that feels genuinely old rather than restored to within an inch of its life. If you're into ecclesiastical architecture, there's enough detail in the stonework and interior fittings to warrant a proper look around, though it's not going to blow your mind if you're not already keen on churches.

The real appeal is wandering through Much Wenlock itself. The town is remarkably intact, with half-timbered buildings and a sense of having stumbled backwards about 400 years. Holy Trinity sits naturally within that landscape - you're not making a pilgrimage to it so much as encountering it while exploring the high street and surrounding lanes. Families might find it a five-minute diversion rather than a destination; history enthusiasts will want to spend longer reading the gravestones and examining the fabric of the building.

It's free to visit, which is always nice. Much Wenlock makes a sensible base if you're stopping in the area - several camping spots within three miles, including Lower Hill Campsite and Irongorge Camping. The town's also close enough to Ironbridge and the wider Shropshire attractions that you wouldn't be bored for a week. Go midweek if you want to avoid the town getting too rammed with tourists, and allow a couple of hours to explore properly rather than just popping in for ten minutes.
