Hollin Stump round cairn

A low stone circle sits quietly on moorland just outside Appleby-in-Westmorland, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. Hollin Stump is a Bronze Age round cairn - essentially a burial mound made of stacked stones - and it's the sort of place that rewards wanderers more than it entertains casual drive-bys.

What you're looking at is roughly 4,000 years of human intention compressed into a modest heap. The cairn itself measures just a few metres across, and there's no interpretive signage, no café, no gift shop.
