Hill of the Wangie

The walk up Hill of the Wangie isn't long, but it's steep enough to make you feel like you've earned the views across Aberdeenshire. Near Forres, this isn't the kind of peak that'll take your whole morning - more of a proper brisk hike that rewards you with decent sightlines over the Highlands.

You're looking at bracken-covered slopes and rough moorland underfoot, the sort of terrain that feels properly wild without being technical. The summit itself is fairly bare, which means nothing between you and the wind, but also means nothing blocking the vistas either. On a clear day, the roll of the landscape spreads out convincingly enough.

It's genuinely decent for walkers who want an hour or so of actual effort without the full day commitment of tackling something like Ben Rinnes. Families with older kids will manage it fine - younger ones might find the boggy patches tedious. There's no visitor infrastructure, so bring water and check the weather before you go.
