Hill of Ribrae

The walk up Hill of Ribrae isn't long, but it's steep enough to make your legs work. From Turriff, it's a straightforward drive south before you're parking up and heading for the summit. The views across Aberdeenshire unfold as you climb - rolling farmland stretching toward the Grampians, and on a clear day you can see for miles. It's the sort of hill that rewards you for the effort without demanding hours of your time.

This one's perfect for walkers who want a proper view without the full mountain experience. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might struggle with the gradient. The round trip takes maybe ninety minutes at a reasonable pace, give or take depending on fitness. There's no infrastructure at the top - just open ground and a solid sense of having earned the panorama.

If you're based at Turriff Caravan Park, you're literally minutes away, which makes it an ideal half-day venture. Combine it with a wander through Turriff itself if the weather turns. The hill works best on clear mornings when you've got maximum visibility. Midweek visits tend to be quieter than weekends.

Admission is free, obviously - it's a proper hill, not a ticketed attraction. Just bring decent boots and check the weather forecast first. This is Scottish Highlands walking at its most straightforward.
