Hill of Persie

The walk up Hill of Persie isn't long, but it punches above its weight for views across Perthshire. You're looking at maybe 45 minutes up from the car park near Blairgowrie, following a decent path that gets steeper as you climb but nothing that requires proper hillwalking kit.

What makes it worth the effort is the perspective you get from the top. On a clear day the Cairngorms pop into view, and you can see right across towards Glenshee. The summit itself is proper modest - there's a cairn and not much else - but that's rather the point. You're not fighting for space with hundreds of other people, and the quietness makes the whole thing feel more authentic.

It's ideal for families who want a proper hill experience without the commitment of a full day trek, or for walkers staying at Corriefodly Holiday Park or Glenshee Glamping who fancy stretching their legs. Both of those parks are within spitting distance. You could do this before lunch, or tackle it in the afternoon when the light's better for photographs.

The terrain varies - some grassland, some rougher ground - so wear proper boots rather than trainers. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking photos and want to sit around at the top. Spring and autumn tend to offer the clearest days, though winter brings its own drama if you don't mind the cold.

Free to visit, obviously. Just park sensibly and respect the local land.
