Hill of Mulundy

The walk up Hill of Mulundy isn't a proper slog, but it's steep enough to earn the views once you're there. From Forres, it's a straightforward drive inland, and the summit rewards you with the kind of panorama that makes you forget the climb - rolling Aberdeenshire countryside stretching out in all directions, with the Highlands rising up beyond.

It's a decent half-day outing for anyone staying in the area. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage it without drama; the path is clear enough, though sensible boots are needed. Serious hillwalkers might find it a bit gentle for their tastes, but if you're after a proper walk without the full mountain expedition, this sits in a sweet spot. The views justify the effort rather than the effort justifying the views, if that makes sense.

Allow a couple of hours from bottom to top and back down. There's nothing commercial up there - no café, no visitor centre - just the hill itself and what you can see from it. That's partly the appeal.

Worth doing, but don't expect any facilities once you leave the car park. Bring water and a proper map if you're not confident with navigation.
