About Hill of Boggieshalloch

The walk up Hill of Boggieshalloch is a proper leg-burner, but the views across Aberdeenshire make the huff and puff worthwhile. It's not a massive peak - you're looking at around 300 metres - but the climb is steep enough that you'll feel like you've earned your perch at the top. On a clear day the Grampians sprawl out in the distance, and the patchwork of farmland below stretches all the way towards Turriff.

This one's best tackled by walkers who actually want a challenge rather than a gentle stroll. It'll take you a couple of hours there and back, depending on fitness and how long you linger. The path can be boggy - hence the name, presumably - so proper boots are essential. Kids aged ten and up would manage it fine if they're used to hills, but younger ones might find it tedious.

There's nothing up top except the views and the satisfaction of having made it, which some will love and others will find a bit thin. No facilities, no visitor centre, completely free. If you're staying at Turriff Caravan Park, it's practically on your doorstep at less than a mile away, making it an ideal morning or afternoon mission before heading back for tea.

Go on a day when the weather's decent - there's no shelter up there, and Scottish mist can roll in fast and kill the whole point of coming. Worth the effort if you like your hills without the crowds.
