Highwall Spinney

This small woodland sits just outside Shipston-on-Stour and offers a proper walk through mixed forest if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites. It's not the kind of place you'll spend half a day - more like an hour's leg-stretch through the trees - but that's exactly what makes it useful for a camping holiday in the area.

You'll find a mix of broadleaf and conifer woodland, the sort of place where you might spot deer if you're quiet and lucky. Paths wind through reasonably, though they can get boggy after rain. Families with young kids will manage fine; it's not demanding terrain.

The real value here is location. If you're based at Aylesmore Farm, Kirby Farm, Crofts Barn, or Shire Camping - all within a couple of miles - this gives you somewhere to burn off energy without driving. There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so come prepared with sensible footwear and don't expect signposting to be brilliant.

Worth a visit? Only if you're camping nearby and want a quick woodland walk. On its own it wouldn't justify a trip to Shipston-on-Stour, but as part of a broader park holiday it's handy. Go early morning in autumn when the light's better and the place feels less utilitarian.
