High Wood

The woodland paths at High Wood make for a proper morning out if you're staying anywhere near Alresford. It's not vast - you're looking at maybe an hour or two depending on how slowly you want to amble through the trees - but the mix of open glades and dense forest keeps things interesting. The trails are well-maintained and manageable for families with decent walkers, though younger kids might find the length a bit much.

What strikes you most is how quiet it gets once you're away from the entrance. Native broadleaf woodland dominates, and there's that good Hampshire feel - proper forest rather than manicured parkland. In spring the bluebells are decent, and autumn colours do their job without being spectacular. You'll spot regular birds if you're into that sort of thing.

If you're camped at Beechen Glamping just down the road, this is an easy slot into a wider day out - you could pair it with exploring Alresford itself or heading to one of the other woodland sites in the area. Woodlands Camping and Wigwam Holidays are both within striking distance too. The wood works best as a walk rather than a destination in itself, so don't expect facilities or a café. Go early if possible to avoid the school groups, and bring decent shoes because the ground holds moisture.
